Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Britt has always been a woman caught between worlds. At six years old, fresh from Sunday school lessons, she traveled to Tuscany with her parents for the first time and immediately recognized it as heaven on Earth—except this heaven had better food, rolling hills, and the son of a café owner who would change everything. During the school year in America, relentless bullying and the general hellscape of adolescence made her feel like an outsider in her own skin. But her summers in Italy? She was suddenly beautiful, suddenly home, and no longer the awkward girl who didn't belong. Nashville, bless its heart, never stood a chance.

That early awakening—the realization that home isn't always where you're born—became the foundation for everything Britt would write, live, and eventually, survive. She spent her formative years ping-ponging between two countries, two identities, and two versions of herself. Boarding school taught her discipline she promptly ignored. Studying abroad in Florence taught her that wine pairs beautifully with existential crises. She emerged with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, a minor in Italian language and an unquantifiable imagination that's gotten her into more trouble than she cares to admit.

Armed with education and zero common sense, Britt spent decades making spectacularly bad decisions with impressive commitment. She stayed too long in relationships that should've ended at appetizers. She tried to fix broken men rather than healing herself. Fueled by impatience and a desperate need to feel anchored somewhere, anywhere, she searched for belonging in all the wrong places. And through it all, she collected stories like battle scars and learned to laugh at the beautiful disaster of becoming.

After years of splitting her life between Italy and America, Britt moved back to the States in 2014 with her young family. After 7 years as Editor-in-Chief of Sophisticated Living Magazine, in Nashville, Tennessee, she traded deadlines for dreams and relocated to Naples, Florida, where she finally became what she'd always been: an artist unafraid to bleed on the page. It took decades—and motherhood, which she considers a karmic masterpiece—for her to be ready to tell this story and deliver the messiness with humor sharp enough to cut through the pain.

The Geography of Becoming, her debut novel and the first in an upcoming series, is the raw, hilarious and achingly honest result of finally finding beauty in the messes she masterfully created. Britt weaves her protagonist Isabella Banks’ journey with the unflinching authenticity of someone who's been there—who knows what it's like to feel lost in your own life and found in a foreign land that somehow feels more like home than anywhere you've ever been.

When asked why she writes, Britt's answer is simple: "Women can get into some dark times, and I want to bring light to them—both the women and the darkness. It's what we do during those moments and who we become because of them that matters."

This is for every woman who's ever felt lost. Because sometimes the longest journey is back to ourselves, Britt's here to remind you: even your worst decisions can lead you exactly where you need to go and who you were always meant to become.

While written in Fiction, the chapters within are largely inspired by real life events in Britt Steele’s life. And as her story continues to write itself, stay tuned for the next book in the series because this is only the beginning.
